St. Paul’s United Church Barrier-free Additions and Alterations
St. Paul’s United Church in downtown Milton, Ontario retained Eric Connolly Architect to design an addition to the existing 120 year old Gothic Revival Church. The existing Church was previously added to in 1962 with the provision of a three storey Education Centre which provided a Church Hall, Classrooms and a Day Care Facility. None of the various floors matched and no provision was made for Barrier-free access.
The design programme entailed the provision of a new Ground Floor entrance, Barrier-free WC and a Handicapped Lift to connect and make the various floor levels accessible.
Given the historic nature of the existing Church, an important programme requirement was to provide an addition which was visually compatible with both the original 1870 building and the 1960 building.
